After 1500, further printing works were established in Rostock. Hermann Barckhusen, Nikolaus Marschalk and Ludwig Dietz set themselves up as printers. Ludwig Dietz’s workshop operated for more than 50 years. He was also the first university printer. After 1550, he was succeeded in turn by Stephan Möllemann and Augustin Ferber the Elder. Both mainly printed works by Rostock scholars. Two further printing houses were also established. In 1618, the Rostock Council also appointed its own printer.
