The Michaelite Brothers of Rostock did not merely print books for sale and bind them for their clients. They also possessed their own valuable library. As was the case for all members of religious orders, the brothers in Rostock were required to own a certain number of books in order to carry out their duties as pastors, preachers or teachers. They proudly inscribed their names on them. Only a few of these books from the Rostock friary have survived to this day. They are scattered throughout Europe.
