Many people get their information directly from social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram or TikTok. The shift from the printed word to personalised feeds is changing not only the speed but also the way content is selected, shared and evaluated. It raises new questions about responsibility, credibility and media literacy. The latter is increasingly being discussed and questioned on these very platforms. At the same time, the debates are becoming more intense: in the face of disinformation, algorithmic amplification and potential impacts on people of different ages, calls for stricter regulations – even bans on social media – are growing louder. Caught between freedom of information and the need for protection, society is searching for answers in the digital age.
