These two motif glasses depict two DSR ships that are well-known beyond the borders of the GDR. The holiday ships "FRITZ HECKERT" and the "VÖLKERFREUNDSCHAFT". Named after the German communist Fritz Heckert (1884-1936), the ship, which was built in Wismar, was used by the Free German Trade Union Confederation from 1961 to 1972 and was subsequently moored at various locations as a floating workers' hostel. The "VÖLKERFREUNDSCHAFT" travelled for the FDGB from 1960 to 1985. She was put into service in Sweden as the "STOCKHOLM" and became sadly famous in connection with the collision with the "ANDREA DORIA" (1956). The ship is still in service today as the "ASTORIA", making it the longest serving cruise ship in the world.
