Copper relief picture of the four-masted sailing ship "PASSAT". The "PASSAT" is one of four surviving ships of the so-called "Flying P-Liner" of the Hamburg shipping company F. Laeisz. So named because they were extremely fast and their names always began with P. The ships were mainly used in maritime trade between Europe and South America. The "PASSAT" was built in 1911 at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg and has been owned by the city of Lübeck since 1959. It has served as a museum ship with its home port of Travemünde since 1960. The three other surviving "Flying P-Liners" are the Russian sail training ship "KRUSENSTERN ex PADUA", the Finnish museum ship "POMMERN ex Mneme" and the "PEKING" in Hamburg.
