Oil painting (WA/K/566)

Born in Berlin, Hein Ross (1877-1969) actually wanted to become a professional painter. However, he was unable to complete his art studies for financial reasons. So Ross became a ship's carpenter, went to sea and was also a boat builder for a time. From 1936, he worked as an assistant draughtsman at the Kröger shipyard in Warnemünde. Ross remained in Warnemünde and left a large number of his works to the local museum, including this oil painting of an unnamed three-masted sailing ship from 1932.
