Lithography "Extraordinary express across the Atlantic"

Extraordinary express across the Atlantic. Pilot Boat Wm. J. Romer, Lith. & pub. by Nathaniel Currier, New York, 1846

The pilot boat "William J. Romer", built in 1841, was one of the fastest boats of its time. It was therefore chosen to start an express voyage from New York to Liverpool (England) on 9 February 1846. Despite adverse conditions, the boat reached England on 10 March 1846 and was back in New York on 11 April. Thanks to the rapid transmission of news, a treaty was concluded between England and the United States on 15 June 1846, settling the border disputes in Oregon.
