The beginning of the production of dioramas by local sailors can probably be dated to around the middle of the 19th century. It is often difficult to date these nautical handicrafts precisely on the basis of the materials used or the names of the ships attached to them, but rather on the basis of the design of the seascapes. It is therefore assumed that the older dioramas were more elaborately designed than the more recent ones.
