Oil painting "Double screw steam ferry "MECKLENBURG" lying on the Strom"

The railway ferry connection between Warnemünde and Gedser (Denmark) was opened in 1903. Several well-known ferries travelled on the line, which existed until 1995.

The "MECKLENBURG" was built at the Schichau shipyard in Elbing (Elbląg/Poland) and underwent various conversions in the 1920s. She served on the Warnemünde-Gedser ferry line (with interruptions due to the war) from 1903 to 1945.

She then sailed under the Polish flag as the "KOPERNIK" on the Świnoujście-Ystad ferry line and served as a residential and workshop ship in Gdańsk (Poland). The ship was scrapped in 1958.
