Even if this view of Warnemünde harbour entrance with an incoming sailing ship is not directly a ship portrait, we do not want to withhold it from you here.
The picture was probably painted between 1800 and 1830 and is signed "E. Barsig". The viewer is looking back from the stone boxes of the fortified harbour entrance (west pier) towards the town, which at that time consisted of only two rows of houses. In the foreground is a capstan, a turning winch used to pull ships into the safe harbour entrance.
